By Aroon

Laos simply beautiful is a new slogan of Lao National Tourism Administration (LNTA) officially announced to use by 2008 to promote Lao as a destination. The slogan is a very good description that can be easily and clearly picture Lao which as a simply, lovely, friendly and beautiful country. By here I would like to introduce you one of my all time favorite festival “Boun Bang Fai” or “Rocket Festival”.

Boun bang Fai is a merit-making ceremony traditionally practiced in Laos by numerous villages near the beginning of the rainy season between May14-16. The purpose of the festival is to praying for rain. In addition of men made Bangfai we still have myths natural bangfai or Bangfai payanak with a believe that it come from the dragon in Mekong river.

In the morning people go to temple dressing traditionally and give rice to monks then the monks will performed their pray for a well agriculture season and the good heath for people. After listening to the monks people will starting to decorate their Bang Fai(Rocket) with the colorful papers and some money, because they believe those money can send to people they love who pass away in paradise.

In the afternoon, people gather and move to the field of the village to launch the rockets competition, during the way to the field people are pushing and pulling Pasad Bangfai (Rocket carrier) with all their power it is the method to slow down and have more fun along the way, some are singing while the other are dancing and some are splitting raw rice to their heads during this period villagers are extremely full of fun beside the lousy instrument performing of the villagers.

When people arrived to the field, they will start the completion if which team, department, company win then they will awarded a big prize, nowadays it is a chance that big company distributed their participation to social and also indirectly promote their company. At the end of the day Ater the ceremony people will have a big meal together in the host of Pasad Bangfai house to thanks for the event. At last, very welcome you to Lao, I hope if you have chance to visit Lao please join in this great event festival I guarantee you won’t disappointed.

  1. I enjoy reading your write-up cos there is a logical sequence with good transitions used, such as 'firstly', 'secondly' and 'thirdly'. The write-up is original and I can almost visualise your descriptions. However, I think the conclusions can be stronger, and you will need to be careful with your phrasing and grammar.\
